This is actually the harder method, although these days, it’s as simple as picking up a phone and clicking “Video.” The reason is that we’re only trying to get the audio, so recording the video is a little bit of overkill.
The “saving grace” is that once you upload your video file to ClipChamp, it’s easy to split the audio and video and throw the video away.
Here’s how to do it:
1. Record the video. Here’s ours. We recorded the video before we thought it through, and we just used TikTok to do the recording. TikTok allows for video download, so we just downloaded it. However, you can use iMovie (on iPhones) and the regular Video Recorder built in on any phone to do the same thing. You could even use the webcam on your laptop or Chromebook and record using ClipChamp, webcamera.io, Panopto, or many other web apps to do the same thing.
Note: You’ll want to have music or a beat (if it’s a rap). Since I did a rap, I found a beat and played it on my laptop while I recorded with my phone. You could just as easily do it in reverse, but most phone cameras are superior to laptop webcams.
2. Upload the video (in whatever video filetype it’s in – MPEG, MP4, AVI, etc.) to ClipChamp. There will be more on ClipChamp in the next lesson.
3. Split the audio from the video, and delete the video (see image below), because we don’t need it. Just click on the video part and hit the “delete” button on your keyboard.

4. Once that’s finished, you’re ready to create your storyboard and add the images.
